Robert Edmund Flood died peacefully early Wednesday morning, July 22 at Kaiser Hospital .
As his family banded together and held on with him for two days prior, they were at his side at time of passing. People knew him as Bob. He was born in San Francisco on Dec. 16, 1920 to Edmund and Annette Flood.
His sister, Dorothy nee (Jim Brannigan) who he loved and adored, preceded him in death in 1973. Bob was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, class of 1938, studied at the University of San Francisco before enlisting in the Navy, and with forever impeccable timing, being at Pearl Harbor (U.S.S. Tennessee) during the invasion on Dec. 7, 1941.
Bob was a Navy pilot with numerous medals, commendations, member of the Black Cat Squadron and a lifetime of stories of World War II, leaving the service as a lieutenant commander.
In 1948, Bob married the first love of his life, Mary Frances Pryor. They were blessed with six children who were given love, guidance and the gift of each other. Robin Frost (Larry), Melissa Spaulding (Fred), Victoria Flood, Jon Flood — deceased (Janie), Andrea Clot (Ron), and Jeffrey Flood (Karen). Grandchildren, Erika (Bill), Brianna (Dave), Nicole, Megan, Clifton (Patricia), Lauren (Brian), Lindsay (Jeff), Jon, Lucas, Alexander, Natalie, Connor, Meghann, Mary Catherine, Joseph and Thomas. Great Grandchildren, Haley, Mason, Joshua, Wyatt, Sebastian, Devon, Mia and one on the way. Loving uncle of Bob Brannigan (Godson), Joan Brannigan, Kathy Brannigan and Pete Brannigan and numerous Brannigan nieces and nephews.
Forever a people person, Bob started his civilian professional career in sales with Del Monte Foods, moving on to E.L. Roberts and finishing up with Cook, Harms and LaBaron.
Bob made many treasured friendships in his business career that lasted until his retirement in 1986. In 1982, Bob suffered the death of his eldest son Jon. A part of him went with Jon, but as always he forged ahead.
Also in 1990, Bob lost his wife of 39 years, Mary, the mother of his six children. As fate would have it, Bob married again in 1996 to a godsend of a woman, Jennie Willard. Bob and Jennie shared great friendship and true love as they lived their lives with great passion through music, dinners, friends, family, their Catholic faith and each other.
The addition of Jennie’s two sons, Gary Willard (Debra) and Dan Willard, into Bob’s life meant a lot to him as he treasured their friendships.
