Jose Rivera de Leon, age 78, resident of Foster City, California, died April 2, 2018, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Guagua, Philippines. His parents were Olimpio G. de Leon and Feliza Rivera.
Jose earned a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, in 1965. He married Brenda Tomasa Dychioco from Angeles City on June 20, 1970.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He had a passion for poker and enjoyed playing digital poker in Las Vegas. Jose was known for his funny stories and humor. He loved music and dancing. Jose was a family man and his family’s needs came first.
Survived by his wife Brenda de Leon; siblings Nattie and Julieta; daughter Joanne Branzuela (Anthony); grandchildren Madeleine and Ethan Branzuela; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Olimpio G. de Leon and Feliza Rivera; siblings Cecilia, Jenny, Leonardo, Rogelio and Amelia.
Visitation is 4 p.m. and vigil is 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s, San Mateo. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Foster City. Interment is at Cypress Lawn, Colma.
