Hattie Ida Ingold of Redwood City CA, age 90, passed away peacefully in her Redwood shores home on November 18, 2023.
She was the youngest of three daughters of Fred and Janet Stremme of San Francisco and Burlingame, CA. She was born and raised in San Francisco, and graduated from Balboa High School, class of 1951.
In 1955 She wed Donald R. Smith, Musician (1927-1961) with whom she had two children. In 1963, after Donald’s passing, she remarried James B. Ingold US Navy (1928-1982). The family then lived in Hawaii and South Carolina where he was stationed. In 1969 the family moved to Burlingame. James passed away in 1982. After being widowed for the second time, and some years, in 1996 she moved to Redwood Shores.
Hattie worked mainly as a Government Service worker for Engineering Budget and Finance for the Department of the Navy. Previously she styled hair. She had a strong work ethic, and was dedicated to her job and home. She had a strong constitution, and was rarely sick or missed a day of work. She was always on time for appointments. Her likes were hot coffee, Bridge, solving word and number puzzles, learning Spanish, and watching TV Murder mystery series. Hattie was an avid Bridge player. One player commented they had been partners for over 20 years. Hattie was especially proud of her home. She emphasized the organization, furnishing, and decoration.
She prided herself in her Birthday and Christmas cards that she was often complimented on. She had a knack for wrapping gifts, decorating a Christmas tree, and cooking and setting a table. She always dressed tastefully, and as difficult as it was, often dyed her own hair to get a unique color. She was health conscious, ate well, and supplemented her diet. In earlier years she took yoga classes. Hattie was very independent. She achieved full retirement and still chose to work some small jobs afterword. She lived alone for for a total of 35 years. She maintained the home and car, and drove well and until she was over 90. Hattie was a friendly neighbor, kind and respected, always optimistic. She never complained.
Hattie’s sister Janet F. Jameson predeceased her. Her sister Barbara M. Topliff has recently since passed. She is survived by her son Mark Ingold of Redwood City, and her daughter Barbara Gooding of Mountain View Ca. Her cremated remains have been scattered at sea.
