Greg Gannam, 73, is home with the Lord after a long illness. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Berkeley, CA to Philip and Louise Gannam. Shortly thereafter they moved to Wilmingon, CA, where he and his brothers were raised and their family business, Gannam’s Market, thrived.
Educated in Catholic elementary and high schools, he attended the University of Southern California for undergraduate and dental school. After many years practicing dentistry, he moved to Albuquerque, N.M. where he met and married Julie McCord in 1981. They moved to San Mateo, CA, where they opened a hearing aid dispensing practice and raised their family.
Loves of his life included wife, Julie(the “Bird), sons, Andrew (Kari) and Graydon and grandchildren, Declan (the “Deeg”), Claire, and Zoe. He is also survived by brothers, Philip Jr. and Roger (Lucille), his dear Aunt Rene, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Greg loved watching the Niners and Warriors, and especially his beloved U.S.C. Trojan football team. He never missed an opportunity to tell all that he played on a C.I.F. undefeated, championship high school football team in 1962.
He very much loved practicing his Catholic faith, and volunteered for the Society of St. Vincent De Paul for 12 years. A pilgrimage to Lourdes, France was the highlight of Greg and Julie’s many travels. At the San Mateo Athletic Club, he held court over “his posse”, where often there was more chatter than exercise.
Services will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater Avenue, Burlingame, CA. on August 22, 2018. The viewing and Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. The reception will be in the Parish Center, followed by the internment at St. John’s Cemetery in San Mateo.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Mission Hospice and Home Care of San Mateo County, 1670 South Amphlett, Suite 300, San Mateo, CA 94402 or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for St. Matthew Conference c/o 50 N. B Street, San Mateo, CA 94401 (to purchase food for the hungry living in San Mateo).
