Dorothy Hyter Hardwicke passed away on December 7, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100. She was born in Los Angeles, California on November 20, 1924.
Dorothy graduated from Los Angeles High School, and then attended classes at Occidental College where she met her life partner, LeRoy Hardwicke. Dorothy and LeRoy were married in 1945 at the Harvard University Chapel in Massachusetts. After the war, and after Ensign Hardwicke’s discharge from the Navy, Dorothy and LeRoy moved to Phoenix, Arizona to begin their life together. LeRoy continued his college studies in accounting, achieved his CPA license, and went on to work in the automobile dealership business.
In 1956, Dorothy and LeRoy, along with their two children; Tom and Mary Ann, moved from Phoenix to Tucson, Arizona. In 1966, Dorothy and LeRoy and their 4 children, (Tom, MaryAnn, Jean and Al) moved from Tucson to Hillsborough, California where LeRoy continued his long career.
LeRoy passed away at the end of 2017 at the age of 96. Dorothy is survived by her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was an amazing person; a devoted wife, an excellent mother, a caring grandmother, a fantastic cook, a welcoming hostess and a great friend to everyone she met. She participated in tennis, golf, bridge and Book Club for more than 50 years at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club and was actively involved in community charity activities. She considered herself as a Secular Humanist and her idea of heaven was her comfortable Hillsborough home with friends, a non-fiction book and a box of dark chocolate See’s candies. Dorothy is remembered and missed by her many friends and family members.
Private Services will be held with Friends & Family at a later date!
