Al Adreveno passed away on May 18, 2026, in Half Moon Bay, CA, at the age of 102. He led a long, full, passionate, and successful life. He was respected and beloved by all he met. The love of his life, Eda Adreveno, his wife of 71 years, was waiting for him as he left this life. Born in North Beach, CA, on July 17, 1923, his family lived in Colma and worked on a produce ranch. Al was a first-generation Italian American, and other than his service during WWII, he was in agriculture his entire life.
Al served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1943-1946, serving as both an instructor at Fort Belvoir and then in the Philippines, where he witnessed the liberation of Okinawa and in Korea. Upon his return to San Francisco, he returned to farming and shortly after met Eda while at the San Francisco Flower Market. They were married in 1947, had their daughter Eda (Muller), and a few years later bought the ranch in Half Moon Bay and started Daylight Nursery in 1954. That hill and creek-nested property would be their home, their livelihood, and where the next two generations would live for the next 50+ years.
Al was a civic leader in Half Moon Bay and across the Coastside for over three decades, first with the Half Moon Bay School Board working on passing a successful bond drive for a new high school, and then the unification of three school districts into one. Over the next eight years, he served on the City Planning Commission, followed by twelve years on the City Council, where he served as Mayor for four terms, and later spent sixteen years on the Coastside County Water District Board. He and his wife, Eda, were also involved in Our Lady of the Pillar and were pivotal in starting the Parish Council. Al was an avid golfer, traveled far and wide with Eda, and was dedicated to his vegetable garden and became a remarkable cook in his retirement years. He was committed to his Sudoku, crosswords, and reading in his later years.
He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Eda and John Muller, his grandchildren Heidi (and Aldo) Bianchi, and Trudy Muller, and two great-grandchildren, who he was so very proud of, Delfina and Lorenzo Bianchi. He also appreciated his wonderful nephews and nieces who kept in close touch with him. Al played a pivotal role in each of their lives; he will be deeply missed.
Al kept a twinkle in his eye, a ready smile that lit up his whole face, and a precision with facts that were unmatched. Anyone who had the privilege to meet him knew how special he was, and that is evident in his many friends who span countries, continents, and multiple generations.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Mission Hospice & Home Care, 66 Bovet Road, Suite 100, San Mateo 94402, or to the John and Eda Muller Endowment Fund at the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation, 80 Garden Court, Suite 270, Monterey, CA 93940.
Al Adreveno’s life and service will be celebrated with Military Honors on Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at 850 Cabrillo Highway North, Half Moon Bay, CA.
