Winners have been chosen for the Oddest Parade of Odd Characters on Odd Day, Jan. 3, 2005.
Sequoia High School Teacher Ron Gordon created the day because its date, 1/3/05 contains the first three odd numbers and will not be repeated for 100 years.
He challenged contestants to come up with odd things to do like calling a football "oddible" or look for "sea odders" and stage a parade.
Elissa Brown of Palo Alto took first place with her submission of an odd letter and photos of her friends dressed in costumes with "large construction paper odd numbers taped on our bODDies," she wrote. They also posted pictures of Dennis RODDman and Frank SinODDRA.
Brown, 17, is a senior at Gunn High School. She said she rode a unicycle while a friend juggled three balls on El Camino Real chanting "One, three, oh-five - Happy Odd Day."
Gordon is sending her a check for $135.79.
"We were thinking about fun, not winning it," Brown said Thursday.
There was no second place (not odd enough) but third place was awarded to Carol Krantz, a third grade teacher at Lynhaven School in San Jose. Fifth place was given to Marey Richins, a kindergarten teacher at Nesbit Elementary in Belmont.
Gordon said there were about 20 entries.
"It was fun," he said. "It was very clever and very original and very odd."
