Monday was an odd day for Sequoia High School teacher Ron Gordon.

He declared 1/3/05 "Odd Day" because its digits are the first three odd numbers, and he is holding a national contest of oddities to celebrate it. His flyer recommends looking for "sea odders" or "watching the Wizard of Odds," and he's looking for odd e-mail entries of activities involving odd numbers. The oddest entry will win $135.79, third place $1 + $3 + $5 + $7 + $9, or $25, and fifth place $1.35. There are no prizes for the even finishers. Gordon said a San Mateo County Judge naturally ought to judge the entries.
