Supervisor Adrienne Tissier, whose district includes the site of a fatal rave party at the Cow Palace over Memorial Day weekend, wants the full Board of Supervisors to throw its weight behind a request to state leaders to legally hobble the likelihood of future events.
Tissier stated publicly last week she was asking legislators to push for change in the wake of several ecstasy overdoses that left one dead and nine other hospitalized.
At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, she will ask the entire Board of Supervisors to adopt a resolution urging the state Legislature to pass a law limiting the Cow Palace’s ability to host raves. The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Division of Fairs and Expositions operates the Cow Palace.
Tissier has at least one champion on the state level; state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo has already indicated his support for restrictions.
Raves shouldn’t happen at the Cow Palace because of "health and safety risks” for attendees and the surrounding neighborhood, according to Tissier.
Compounding the death stemming from the May 29 dance is the Cow Palace’s history of raves that resulted in numerous arrests, according to Tissier.

Two fatal overdoses marred an event in 2002, followed by 58 arrests in 2008 and 79 arrests in 2009. Last year’s dance also included the seizure by officers of more than 900 ecstasy tables, methamphetamine and marijuana.
In the most recent case, 23-year-old Anthony Mata of Santa Clara County died of an apparent drug overdose although toxicology results are still pending with the Coroner’s Office.
Authorities first thought the drugs had been tainted but later switched to deem the cases overdoses.
Mata and the others fell ill at the "etd.POP 2010” music festival at which police reported seizing 800 ecstasy tablets with a street value of $16,000, LSD, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana and approximately $5,000 in cash. Five juveniles and 68 adults were arrested on suspicion of possessing or selling drugs at the festival.
The Board of Supervisors meets 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 8 in Board Chambers, 400 County Government Center, Redwood City.
