San Mateo County is hosting a day of support geared toward its veterans, offering legal, health and social services for anyone who shows up to County Center this Thursday.
The one-stop shop — aptly called “Stand Down,” which means a pause to rest and reset in the military — hopes to give veterans a break and a chance to access any service they may need. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the courtyard of 500 County Center, Redwood City.
“Our goal is to bring together as many different services as possible into one location so veterans can learn about and access many of the services available to them,” Ed Kiryczun, the county’s Veterans Services Office manager, said in a press release.
On-site, services will include Veterans Affair health care enrollment, flu shots, child support and family law facilitation, help with post-conviction relief and record sealing, among others.
The legal services will be “designed specifically for veterans, so they can address issues that often stand in the way of jobs, housing or stability,” according to the press release.
There are an estimated 21,000 veterans living in the county.
