A 24-year-old Redwood City man has been charged with attempted murder and carjacking after allegedly slashing a friend’s throat while parked in Pescadero, fleeing the scene and then stealing a woman’s car in an attempt to escape, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Arsenio Gonzalezsian, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking and possession of a pipe.
On the night of Feb. 14, Gonzalezsian was allegedly driving with the victim and his brother from Redwood City to Pescadero when the car was stopped at around 1 a.m. While parked, Gonzalezsian allegedly leaned forward into the front seat and slashed the victim’s throat from the left ear to right cheek, according to the DA’s Office.
The attack was allegedly unprovoked, Wagstaffe said, however, the victim survived the injury.
After seeing the scene, a manhunt for Gonzalezsian began. He allegedly stole a woman’s car at the Cal Fire station in Pescadero around 7:30 a.m., according to the DA’s Office, jumping into a car with the keys left inside. The woman grabbed the door handle of the car and attempted to stop him and was subsequently dragged several feet.
Gonzalezsian was allegedly found around 10 a.m. on Feb. 15 hiding in a structure on Cabrillo Highway.
