An 18-year-old East Palo Alto resident was arrested in Redwood City on Wednesday after allegedly assaulting a woman who had a domestic violence restraining order against him, according to police.
Just before 8:30 a.m., Redwood City Police began to get multiple 911 calls reporting that a man had jumped up onto the roof of an occupied car by Franklin and Monroe streets and was yelling at the driver. The man allegedly kicked in and shattered the windshield, then opened the driver's door, forced the female into the passenger seat and drove off, according to police.
Another 911 call then came in reporting a woman's screams coming from a car with a smashed-in windshield in the area of Roosevelt Avenue and Oliver Street.
Police were able to obtain the car's license plate number, allowing them to track it through license plate readers throughout the city.
According to police, the system eventually showed the vehicle traveling through the intersection of Woodside Drive and Fernside Street. At this point, Redwood City officers were joined by San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies.
At about 9:38 a.m., officers located the car and conducted a traffic stop. The male suspect was detained, and the female victim was located.
Arrested was Hector Salgadotovar on suspicion of kidnapping, vandalism, domestic battery and violating a domestic violence restraining order. His bail has been set at $400,000 and as of Wednesday night he was still in custody.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Redwood City Police Department's nonemergency line at (650) 780-7100.
