On Tuesday, May 14, contractors for Pacific Gas and Electric began work to make improvements to 11 electric towers located in the San Francisco Bay, along the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.
To perform this work safely and as quickly as possible, the utility announced it will be using boats to transport equipment and crews to barges anchored at the base of the transmission towers, on the south side of the bridge. While the work will be taking place at the base of the towers, some of this activity will be visible to drivers on the bridge, according to the utility.
Work is currently underway, and is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The project is scheduled to be completed by early 2020, according to the utility.
