A Palo Alto man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting another man with a table without provocation.
At about 9:55 a.m. Sunday, Palo Alto police responded to a report of a man throwing chairs onto the sidewalk on the 100 block of University Avenue. Officers located the victim, a man in his 30s, who reported that he had been assaulted while walking on University Avenue.
He was approached by Dontay Steward, 42, who threatened to harm him without provocation, police said. They did not know each other.
Steward picked up a table and threw it at the victim, who blocked the table with his forearm. The victim sought medical treatment for minor arm pain afterward.
Police arrived at the scene, detained Steward, and booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and vandalism.
