A 47-year-old Brisbane man is facing five years in state prison for chasing after a community service officer with a loaded crossbow and threatening to shoot her earlier this month, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Stephan Fava is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and resisting an executive officer for the June 6 incident in which he approached the officer, who was writing a ticket for a car on Visitacion Avenue near Fava’s home, with a loaded crossbow saying he planned to shoot her, according to prosecutors.
The officer tried to run from Fava and he ran after her, continuing to point the weapon at her. In claiming to be the president of the United States and saying “my captain, where’s my captain?” he displayed signs of mental health issues, according to prosecutors.
When he was detained at gunpoint, police officers took him to the hospital on a psychiatric hold. Fava was allegedly kicking and flailing at hospital staff before he was released to jail, according to prosecutors.
A judge denied Fava’s defense attorney’s motion to reduce his felony charges to misdemeanor charges when he appeared in court Monday. He is in custody on $150,000 bail and will next appear in court July 3 for Superior Court arraignment, according to prosecutors.
