A Fairfield man arrested on suspicion of a string of school burglaries across the Bay Area is being charged in San Mateo County for stealing credit cards from school employees at Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough and Lincoln Elementary School in Burlingame, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Shin-Mee Chang said.
The man, 34-year-old Christopher Britton, allegedly walked onto the Crocker Middle School campus Sept. 16, stole a teacher’s credit card from her purse while she was at lunch and used it for multiple fraudulent changes, Chang said. He allegedly repeated the pattern in early October with another school employee at Lincoln Elementary.
He’s been linked to similar school campus thefts in five separate Bay Area counties and was arrested by the Fremont Police Department on Wednesday.
In San Mateo County, he is now being charged with two counts of commercial burglary, two counts of petty theft and two counts of identity fraud.
