A 22-year-old San Francisco resident has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty for allegedly beating his dog, a 4-month-old German shepherd named Pinky, Rebecca Baum, San Mateo County assistant district attorney, said.
The man, Donald Redmondhayes, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from San Francisco after officers arrived to the Belmont Motel 6 after receiving reports of a man beating his dog, according to the DA’s Office.
Redmondhayes allegedly reached into the back seat and punched the dog 10-15 times per office reports, although he said he was disciplining the dog for misbehaving by patting it on the head.
Pinky appeared uninjured and was taken into custody by the Peninsula Humane Society, according to the DA’s Office.
Redmondhayes was released on his own recognizance, provided he does not own an animal, Baum said.
