A man was arrested Friday evening in San Mateo after he allegedly stole multiple pairs of shoes and fled when the store’s security tried to detain him, according to police.
Ryan Komara, a 34-year-old San Mateo resident, allegedly used a sensor removal device to take security tags off several pairs of shoes at the Nordstrom Rack store at Bridgepointe Shopping Center.
As Komara left the store, an asset protection employee confronted him and tried to detain him. Komara allegedly physically resisted then fled. The employee sustained a minor injury.
Police responded to the scene at around 6:15 p.m. and discovered the suspected stolen items and a sensor removal device, believing Komara discarded them as he was fleeing.
Officers later located Komara nearby and searched him. The merchandise he allegedly stole was worth $150.00, police said.
He was arrested on suspicions of second-degree robbery and possession of burglary tools. He also had outstanding warrants for grand theft, identity theft, burglary, and firearms violations, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
