A mixed-use 27,921-square-foot development project at 616 S. B St. was approved by the San Mateo Planning Commission Tuesday, Dec. 12.
The site is currently home to Kelly-Moore Paints and Tap Plastics and will comprise both retail and residential space, including a mix of 48 residential one- and two-bedroom units. Five of those units will be available at below-market-rate for the very low-income category.Â
The Planning Commission gave its first in-depth review of the project in February 2022, and after design reviews and feedback, commissioners made several approvals, including the site plan and site development planning application. The property owners, Nazareth Vista, also sought several waivers, including parking stall and setback exemptions, as allowed by the state’s density bonus laws. The bonus regulations also allowed for a 50% density increase, which allowed for 16 additional units.
