State government
• Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2941, authored by Assemblyman Marc Berman, D-Palo Alto, to ensure that victims of wildfires and other natural disasters have continued access to health care.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, health plans and health insurers will be required to provide access to medically necessary health care services to patients who have been displaced by a governor — declared state of emergency. Under the new law, health plans and health insurers could authorize care to be provided by an out-of-network provider, extend filing deadlines for claims, suspend prescription refill limitations and allow prescriptions to be refilled at an out-of-network pharmacy, relax time limits for referrals, and allow for medical equipment or supplies to be replaced.
City government
• The Redwood City Council will consider Monday making a joint resolution with the Port of Redwood City to fund infrastructure improvements at the municipal marina and to increase funding for relocation services for liveaboard tenants at Docktown Marina. Port officials have initiated plans for repairs and upgrades to accommodate up to 19 liveaboard tenants displaced as part of a settlement agreement. The repairs are expected to cost $800,000, according to a staff report.
The council will also consider a residential parking permit program in the Friendly Acres neighborhood, consider new fee policies for community events and discuss shared long-term housing in residential neighborhoods.
The City Council meets 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road.
