• Gov. Jerry Brown has signed Assembly Bill 554 into law, allowing high school students who are lawful permanent residents to serve as poll workers in California elections. This bill, authored by Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, D-South San Francisco, expands on Assembly Bill 817, which was signed into law in 2013, which allowed lawful permanent residents 18 and over to assist as poll workers in our state.
Currently there is a shortage of poll workers who speak languages other than English and this bill provides elections officials the opportunity to draw from an expanded pool of bilingual poll workers, according to Mullin’s office.
