Questions remain in the San Mateo murder-suicide case that involved the death of 4-year-old twins, though a coroner’s report found the boys were likely smothered to death.
In February, a tech couple and their young sons were found dead in their home on Alameda de las Pulgas. Anand Sujith Henry, a 37-year-old former engineering manager at Google and Meta, had shot his wife Alice Benziger, a data science manager at Zillow, in their bathroom and then himself.
The couple’s sons, Noah and Nathan, were found on the couch, each with a pillow near them.
The couple, originally from India, previously lived in San Francisco before settling in San Mateo around 2020. They had filed for divorce in 2016 but did not follow through and remained married.
According to the report, the pillows, coupled with the small spots on the face and eyes, or petechia, were also found on the boys, which can be a sign of asphyxiation. Between that and the nearby pillows, it could “suggest the possibility of smothering, however this diagnosis cannot be made based on the limited investigative information and nonspecific findings,” the report said. No signs of poisoning were found.
Based on conversations with family and friends, San Mateo police spokesperson Officer Jerami Surratt said the father remains the main suspect responsible for all deaths, although it remains inconclusive. The 9 mm handgun used in the shootings was legally registered to Anand.
