The city of San Mateo has developed two ways to help community members channel their sympathy and sadness about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks into something positive.
First, the city has opened an account at the Peninsula Community Foundation to accept donations that will be directed to the City of New York Twin Towers Fund.
The fund was set up to assist, support and recognize the families of New York police and firefighters, as well as EMS workers, port authority workers and New York State Court employees who lost their lives in the attack.
Depending on the generosity of donors, some of the money may also be use toward families of others killed in the attacks. According to a statement from the San Mateo Police Department, localizing the New York fund will
