After undergoing touch-ups and renovations for a year, two branch libraries in San Mateo will re-open early next month complete with scenic reading decks.
Residents can expect to see a new deck overlooking a creek at the Hillsdale library and a deck overlooking the lagoon at the Marina branch, said Deputy City Librarian Ben Ocon.
New paint and lighting will also greet those returning to the libraries. Each branch will also have a new children's area and express check-out machines.
"That should free up staff to help the public," Ocon said.
The Hillsdale branch will open Saturday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. The Marina library will open the following Saturday at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to the opening day ceremonies at both libraries, where a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held. The public will be treated to a reception and refreshments as well.
The main library shut down last summer to move into a temporary location at 1100 Park Place, where it is being housed while a new three-story facility is erected. The main library will open during the summer of 2006.
The Hillsdale library originally opened in 1957. The Marina library first opened in 1966. In 1985, the Marina library was the first of the city's libraries to have its automated circulation system running.
The City Council approved plans to replace the facility at 55 W. Third Ave. with a library more than two years ago.
The new library will cost $65 million, to be paid for by $10 million in private donations and a $20 million state grant the city recently applied for. The remainder will come from a bond measure approved by voters in 1999.
