Two people suspected of stealing $10,000 in high-end lighters from “The Cave” on El Camino Real in San Mateo were arrested after an unrelated traffic stop in Half Moon Bay, according to police.
At about 4:54 p.m. Oct. 21, police were called to the location on the 2400 block of South El Camino Real on the report of a burglary. It was reported that a man and a woman walked into the store. The woman, later identified as Kiersten Kinser, 33, of San Francisco, allegedly distracted a store employee, while the man, identified as Dustin Becker, 40, of El Granada, took and concealed the lighters, then they both left.
At about 6:45 p.m. Nov. 4, both were detained during an unrelated traffic stop by another local law enforcement agency in Half Moon Bay. Based on the established probable cause by the San Mateo Police Department, Kinser and Becker were placed under arrest for second-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. During a search, lock picking tools were discovered. Kinser and Becker were transported to the San Mateo County Jail where they were booked for their charges, according to police.
