A widespread power outage last night left many residents from San Mateo south down to Menlo Park muddling around in the darkness for their telephones to call in assistance from area officials. The outage in some areas lasted at least until midnight last night. Pacific Gas & Electric were on the scene trying to find the cause of the outage and restore service to residents.

The power in other areas was restored at approximately 11:30, according to the San Mateo Police Department. Local areas that were affected include much of El Camino and the areas around Concord and Delaware.
