Relay for Life fund-raiser
People who want to support cancer survivors can watch the Relay for Life this weekend, where family and friends are raising money for the fight against cancer.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour celebration of hope, progress and answers for the millions of Americans who have survived cancer. Ceremonies will be held in San Mateo and Belmont.
Teams of friends, families, and co-workers of cancer survivors are raising funds to support the work to fight the disease.
The event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
The opening ceremony will be held on Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. The Victory/Survivor lap will be at 10 a.m. and the Luminaria ceremony will be at 8:30 p.m. The closing ceremony will be held Aug. 3 at 9 a.m.
The Luminaria ceremony will have a light to honor each person who has battled cancer. Each light will be laid out next to the track and will burn through the night.
Relay for Life events will be held at San Mateo High School at 605 N. Delaware in San Mateo and at Carlmont High School, 1400 Alameda De Las Pulgas, Belmont.
Art and Jazz Festival in downtown Burlingame
Jazz and music lovers can enjoy live music this weekend along with art and food.
The 11th annual Burlingame Art and Jazz Festival will be held Aug. 2 and 3 on Burlingame Avenue from El Camino Real to California Drive.
The festival is being run by the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce and the Burlingame Avenue Business Association.
Arts and crafts, music in the forms of lite jazz, Dixieland and swing, foods and beverages, and children's activities will be at this year's festival.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
