Menlo-Atherton 6, Menlo School 2
After each team scorted in the first inning before the Knights scored in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
But the Bears scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to propel them to the Bay Division win.
Max Brubacher drove in a pair of runs for M-A (2-1 PAL Bay, 3-7 overall), while Oliver Coupe had two of the Bears’ four doubles. Caden Lewis, a sophomore, won his second straight Bay Division start, allowing one earned run on four hits in six innings of work.
Battle Scott and Fletcher Cahill each drove in a run for Menlo (1-2, 6-5).
Burlingame 3, Capuchino 1
The Panthers scored all three runs in the bottom of the third and Daniel MacMillan did the rest on the mound to lead the Burlingame past the Mustangs.
MacMillan worked into the seventh inning, giving up one run on one hit. Drew Gall notched the save, giving up a hit in the final inning.
Oscar Osuna Lopez, Liam Philibosian and Slade Flores all drove in a run for Burlingame (2-1 PAL Bay, 6-4 overall).
Jordan Estrella drove in the only run for Capuchino (0-1, 8-3).
In other action ...
Urban-SF (5-2 overall) scored all six of its runs in its final two at-bats to beat Crystal (1-6-1), 6-3.

The Mustangs may have come up short in the team scores, but William VanderLugt was a two-time winner in the tri-meet. He won the 800 in a time of 2:05.90 and the 1,600 with a time of 4:37.67.
Capuchino hurdlers also swept the two hurdles races. Lucas Yap cruised to a win over teammate Thomas Partin in the 110 high hurdles, with Yap posting a time of 19.72, well ahead of Partin’s 21.58.
The two swapped places in the 300 hurdles, with Partin winning 48.21 and Yap second with a 48.84.

Having already established herself as an elite softball player, Capuchino’s Star Gutierrez is off to a fine start to her track career. Competing in the sprints for the first time, Gutierrez, a sophomore, won four events — two individual and two relays. She won the 200 with a time of 27.69, took first in the 400 with a 1:00.33. She then ran the leadoff led as the Mustangs won the 4x100 relay with a time of 53.69. Gutierrez capped her day by running the second leg in the 4x4oo, which Capuchino won with a time of 4:28.82.

The Bears went the distance for the second straight match, pulling out another win — 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25, 15-2.
Ben Warner was a one-man killing machine, finishing with an eye-popping 35 kills for M-A (2-0 PAL Bay, 14-5 overall). Bears’ setter Coen Chou was just as good as pumped out 48 assists, while adding four kills. Nick Sandoval led the defense for M-A, finishing with 18 digs.
San Mateo (0-2, 3-8) got 15 kills from Marcus Kim and 12 from Matthew Chen.
El Camino 3, South City 0
The Colts swept the Warriors 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.
Ivan Cheung led El Camino (3-2 PAL Ocean, 3-4 overall) with 10 kills and three service aces. Colts’ middle blocker Jordan Gilliland added seven kills and a block, while Anthony Marquez had four aces and four digs for El Camino.
South City (0-6, 0-11) is still searching for its first win.
Mills 3, Jefferson 0
The Vikings rolled over the Grizzlies 25-13, 25-10, 25-5 to earn their first Ocean Division win of the season.
Collin Chen had 14 kills, Matthew Lee and Jayden Jiang both added 11 to lead Mills (1-3, 2-12).

Woodside (4-0 PAL Ocean, 6-1 overall) got past Westmoor (1-4, 8-7) in five sets — 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-13.
Sequoia (4-1 PAL Ocean, 8-6 overall) swept Capuchino (1-4, 8-7) 25-11, 25-14, 25-20.
Softball
Mercy 9, Burlingame 1
The Bears claimed the title of best softball team in Burlingame after the beating the Panthers.
Mercy (9-2) was up just 1-0 after three innings, but Burlingame (6-4), which has lost three in a row, tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth. But the Bears closed with a flourish, scoring three runs in the fifth and sixth, and tacked on two more in the top of the seventh.
Charlotte Kel had a day for Mercy. In addition to picking up the win in the circle, striking out seven working into the fifth inning, she also went 4 for 4 at the plate, hitting a triple and an RBI. Isabel Reburiano was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Brooke Arce went 2 for 3 and drove in the run for Burlingame.
Woodside 5, Menlo-Atherton 3
Down 1-0 after three innings, the Wildcats scored five times in the fourth to carry them to the non-league win over the Bears.
Elizabeth Severin doubled and drove three runs for Woodside (7-4 overall), while Hannah Walker drove in a run in addition to working six innings in the circle, giving up one earned run on five hits while striking out seven.
Carey “Veggie” Maletis and Lavietani Taufahema each drove in a run for M-A (7-2).
Notre Dame-Belmont 11, Half Moon Bay 5
A five-run fourth propelled the Tigers to the non-league win over the Cougars.
Skylar Loo hit a triple and drove in two runs for NDB (4-7 overall), while Allie Dorn added a double and drove in a pair, as well.
Hailey Truong got the win in the circle, scattering five hits and allowing a run in four innings of work.
