NEW DELHI (AP) — India needs just 58 more runs to beat the West Indies in the second test and wrap up a series whitewash in New Delhi.
India was 63-1 in its second innings at stumps on day four Monday at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Lokesh Rahul was 25 not out and Sai Sudharsan on 30 from 47 balls, with five fours, at stumps.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 175 in the first innings, was out for 8 after India was set 121 for victory.
There was an option to extend play by 30 minutes if India was close to winning but the test will go to a fifth and final day.
Shai Hope struck his first test century in eight years to help West Indies score 390 runs in its second innings.
Opener John Campbell, with 115 off 199 balls, also scored his first test hundred, while a 79-run stand for the last wicket delayed India's pursuit of victory.
West Indies scored 248 in its first innings, in reply to India's 518-5 declared, and surrendered a first innings' lead of 270 runs.
In the morning session, Campbell, 87 overnight, and Hope, resuming on 66, helped to reduce the deficit to 18 by lunch at 252-3.
They put on 177 runs together until Campbell was out lbw to Ravindra Jadeja just before lunch. Campbell's 4 1/2-hour stand included a dozen boundaries and three sixes.
Hope was bowled by Mohammed Siraj on 103 off 214 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes.
At the other end, spinner Kuldeep Yadav picked up three quick wickets, triggering a West Indies collapse when he trapping Tevin Imlach lbw for 12 at 293-5. Yadav then dismissed Roston Chase on 40 and Khary Pierre for a duck in the same over and West Indies slipped to 298-7.
Yadav finished with eight wickets in the match and 12 in the series.
West Indies went to tea at 361-9 after a 30-minute extension. Justin Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) then frustrated the tired Indian bowlers and fielders for 22 overs before Jasprit Bumrah (3-44) wrapped up the innings.
It was only the fourth time since 1961 that India was forced to bat again in a test after enforcing the follow-on.
West Indies has not beaten India in their last 26 tests — home or away — dating to 2002.
India won the first test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 40 runs.
