The voter empowerment act which proposed to take the power to draw legislative and congressional district lines out of the hands of legislators and put that power in the hands of an independent commission failed. You let the politicians fool you again/
Redistricting is essential. An independent commission would be more fair to citizens than the self-serving way legislators redistrict now. You would get to see the maps being drawn and how the changes would affect your communities. A fair redistricting system would create a more moderate legislature. Fixing the system should be done because its the right thing to do. The current set-up which allows legislators to create their own seats, has insulated them from competition.
The legislators are picking the voters as opposed to the voters picking the legislators — changing the system would be better for everyone. Now, we have to wait till the next election to see if the voters get smarter and vote yes on redistricting.
