The eviction of Marie Hatch caused a furor, but nothing has changed (“Senior eviction lawsuit closes with settlement” in the Wednesday, June 20, edition of the Daily Journal). There are dozens of families and seniors being uprooted to make way for developments in Burlingame. In every neighborhood, lovely craftsman homes are being torn down so developers can maximize the property. The settlement in the Hatch case amounts to a slap on the wrist and is no deterrent. Unless and until Burlingame’s elected officials are willing to stand up to developers who do not care about the residents or the charm, this will continue.
