Editor,

In 1951, New York Giants were in the World Series for the first time since 1933. The Yankees had won the World Series in 1950. Playing in Yankee Stadium, Joe DiMaggio, in his last year, was in center and a promising rookie, Mickey Mantle was in right. Mick new that it was verboten to cut off Joe on any ball hit in between them. The batter hit it in between them. Mick pulled up going for the ball to allow the Yankee Clipper to catch it and wrenched his knee on a sprinkler head. It ruined his career, which turned out to be pretty, pretty, pretty good. The batter? Rookie Willie Mays.
