Editor,
I recently read that Burlingame has joined the growing list of cities to ban gasoline leaf blowers. It is my great hope that San Mateo does the same.
Editor,
I recently read that Burlingame has joined the growing list of cities to ban gasoline leaf blowers. It is my great hope that San Mateo does the same.
Gasoline leaf blowers are a known environmental and public health hazard.
There are several proven strategies to financially help contractors shift from gasoline to electric. It is not an onerous expense; it can be amortized and tax deducted. Many landscapers serving San Mateo also serve Burlingame. San Mateo is now at risk of getting the leftover air and noise pollution leaf blowers Burlingame bans. Our residents deserve clean air and quiet neighborhoods just like the residents of Burlingame. We should not be second-class citizens compared to our bordering higher-income neighborhoods, as is the case for many of our communities.
Our over 100,000 residents can greatly benefit by modernizing the equipment of a relatively small number of contractors. The cost benefit analysis is an easy one for the greater good.

Elvin, even with amortization and tax deductions, gardeners and regular folk still need to fork out the full 100% to buy electric blowers and they’ll only receive tax savings equal to their tax rate, not 100%. And are they expected to scrap their old, usable, gas blowers? I can understand reducing some noise pollution but you’re relocating the pollution to be introduced at fossil-fuel generating power plants. But as long as it’s not your neighborhood… all is right with the world.
I agree. Nothing more annoying than a loud, polluting leaf blower.
Other than loud, polluting greenies who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. You know, like COP attendees who took over 400+ private jets to attend the conference to, of all things, tell folks how to restrict their carbon emissions while they go whole hog on polluting to their hearts’ desires. Now that's most annoying... they don't believe their own message.
