Since your reader K. Shane took the time to respond to my letter regarding tips, I will offer an answer to their questions. No, I do not believe that $36,000 per year is a livable wage. I think that at least $50,000 is needed to get by, and that is living close to the bone. That doesn’t mean I believe minimum wage should be raised to $30 per hour. I think there is a place for entry-level and casual jobs that pay less. I am quite encouraged to see vocational training make a resurgence. It offers an avenue toward a well-paying job, without a college degree.
