Yet again, the San Carlos City Council meeting (July 25) was a hair-raising experience. Aside from the usual unprofessionalism of Mayor Inge Doherty and her constant attempts to pick an argument with Vice Mayor Matt Grocott, regardless of how justified his questions are, this night she struck a new low by actually trying to prevent him from speaking. I agree with Mr. Grocott's comments regarding Mike Garvey's ineptness as city manager; Garvey had plenty of opportunities to question the billing of Parviz Mokhtari, San Carlos' contracted director of Public Works, who billed the city $53,000 for work not specified in his contract! Then to hear Doherty say that the council should not be concerned with fine print, that this is water under the bridge and he should be paid, no questions asked. Really? So just throw money at these contractors to do some job and not be concerned with where and how this taxpayer money is spent?
The deafening silence and lack of concern from the other three councilmembers, namely Mike King, Don Eaton and Tom Davids, was incredulous. Just whose interest do they have in mind? I don't think ours. I for one, am glad elections are upcoming this November. It's time for a change with this "hear no evil, see no evil" City Council. Grocott has my vote for a job well done. I'm glad newcomers John Hoffman and Brad Lewis have stepped forward to challenge the King and Eaton seats.
