Why is it that Peninsula city councils are still debating how big a new commercial development project should be? People, do the math. A million square feet of new office or lab will mean 5,000 new jobs, meaning nearly 5,000 new state required housing units. Yay, more tax revenue to pay more staff! And back to the housing density and traffic hand wringing.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Riggs, but if I recall correctly, there are about 80+ million reasons for the Redwood LIFE commercial project to be approved. In the form of $80+ million dollars for affordable housing. We know affordable housing cannot be built without subsidies and this is $80+ million that can be given to developers to subsidize affordable housing. The question is whether the residents of Redwood City, or any Peninsula city, want the $80+ million, or not. Remember, the project must bring in a positive rate of return else developers will build elsewhere…
