An unsustainable shoreline development is creating consternation in Redwood Shores. Just last week, at a council meeting, the city staff presented what was purported to be a community-designed alternative to the developer’s proposed massive Redwood Life campus project.
To the disbelief of the community members, the consultants presented as the community-preferred alternative only a “10%- 20% reduction.”
What the community is concerned about has not been addressed: the added 2.5 million square feet, increasing the size and height of buildings, the huge increase in workers and traffic, biosafety concerns, contamination risks from drilling into an unstable landfill cap or flooding from sea level rise and toxic groundwater rise. Not least, 25 years of construction promises residents a lifetime of disruption.
The alternative plan responded to a few community concerns, but many more must be resolved. I urge Redwood City to respond to the entire range of community concerns, and not blindly accept the developer’s disingenuous and biased statements of community support.

The project was a done deal when Redwood Shore voters went for Jeff Gee - a VP of 'Big Development'. It would be weird if he brings all that new development only to Redwood City but not to Redwood Shores.
Also, good luck getting any improvements or even solid 'community benefits' out of this project. 'Community benefits' have often been detrimental in Redwood City projects or non-existent once the projects have finished.
