I am a San Francisco Giants fan and was relieved to see a story about the players in the newspaper last week. There is something about athletes like Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey that gives me comfort. They never seem ruffled when things get tough. I guess you could say they are my security blanket.
During the holidays, I pretty much stopped watching the evening news, as it got to be too much for me to digest. Like a lot of people, I turned to the Hallmark Channel and Jeopardy for relief (Thanks Alex, I hope you are better soon). Just as in baseball, these two shows give me a sense of normalcy. Everything is OK when I hear baseball by the barbecue.
I am not much of a television watcher for other than the above shows, but I very much look forward to watching the Olympic celebration where the world gets along for two weeks or so. Even North and South Korea are on the same team. Wow, you made my day.
As I watched the awesome opening ceremony, I was doing great until NBC TV hostess Katie Couric announced what a brutal regime North Korea is and that their leader’s sister was stationed in back of Vice President Pence at the ceremony.
Most of us are aware what a brutal regime North Korea is and the awful crimes they commit against even their own people, but, dear Katie, please don’t mix up the evening news with a wonderful event which celebrates athleticism but once every four years. I almost turned off my TV because of your comment Katie.
