If anyone still harbors doubts that Gavin Newsom is contemplating a run for the White House in 2028, this week’s sojourn into South Carolina for some schmoozing with local politicians and photo ops with common folk should dispel them.

Although South Carolina is a strongly Republican state, in 2024, the Democratic Party, at the behest of then-President Joe Biden, designated it as the first state to have a presidential primary. It could play that role again in 2028.

Thanks for another great article, Mr. Walters. It’s interesting that the Mayor of California is copying the Mayor of Los Angeles in abandoning the state while wildfires are raging. In the case of Newsom, also abandoning the state while ICE raids are occurring, to larger and larger degrees. So much for real concern about California, especially if it results in more publicity for King Gavin. To borrow from the words of Harry Callahan and directed to Newsom, “You’re a legend in your own mind.”

Check out Newsom's X feed, it is post after post railing on Trump, Republicans, and other states. Never about addressing issues in the state he governs. He's really gone off the rails lately. Who does this even appeal to? Even if I were a Newsom fan I would want him to spend his time trying to better California, not constantly focusing on what goes on in other states or ranting about the opposing political party.
