A now-removed set of locally distributed social media posts that included AI-altered images that violated at least one community platform guideline got me wondering how much of the content we’re served on social platforms really deserves a harsher eye than most of us give it.

In 2025, almost 1 in 5social media posts contained AI generated or altered images per the Reuters Institute.

Thanks for your column, Ms. Tsai. Since we have (mostly) mainstream media attempting to gaslight readers into their version of history, wasn’t it only a matter of time before mainstream media used AI to gaslight readers into seeing what their version of history is? Most folks, if they don’t already, need to do their research and determine which media companies, or individuals, have reported fake news and lies in the past and then ignore them. So basically, anything coming from the AP, Amazon Post, NYT, and CNN should be ignored. Whether we like it or not, AI has been unleashed and although folks may want to “tame” it, there will always be some that will use it, untamed.
