San Mateo County Parks is expanding on-leash dog walking to include Junipero Serra Park in San Bruno and additional areas at Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo beginning June 15.
Starting this Saturday, visitors will be able to walk dogs at Coyote Point on designated trails and areas in addition to the San Francisco Bay Trail. This is the first time dogs will be allowed at Junipero Serra Park located at 1801 Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno.
A kick-off event Friday, June 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Junipero Serra Park will be for residents to meet park staff and become familiar with the park and areas where dogs can be walked. Informational cards that detail rules about visiting with dogs will be available, as will items that foster responsible dog walking, including a waste bag holder, bandanas and leashes. The departments asks visitors with dogs at these locations to be sure to always keep dogs on leash, keep leashes to 6 feet or less when near others, stay on designated trails, keep dogs out of playground areas, scoop the poop and use the trash cans, leave wildlife and vegetation undisturbed and bring no more than three dogs per visitor.
