A November bicycle fatality at the Highway 101/Holly Street overcrossing has renewed interest amongst advocates pushing for safety changes, and San Carlos city officials will hold a listening session Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The session will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the community room on the second floor of the San Carlos Library, 610 Elm St. The session is intended for city officials to gather ideas, suggestions and input from the community on potential near-term solutions so cyclists and pedestrians can cross safely.
A “ghost bike” vigil was held at the erected memorial — a white bicycle adorned with flowers — to honor her life and build awareness about an ongoing request for improved safety measures in the area. Residents and bicycle advocates have called for a pedestrian bridge over Highway 101 for years that ultimately went silent because of the express lane expansion.
Those planning to share thoughts at the meeting and who would like to contribute pictures or examples prior are asked to please email them to Quinne Woolley at qwoolley@cityofsancarlos.org, no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3. Presentations will be limited to five minutes. Dinner will be served. Please RSVP by sending an email to citymanager@cityofsancarlos.org by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.
