The Peninsula Library System in San Mateo County unveiled a new feature Monday that may help users avoid overdue fines.
All non-digital items belonging to a library in the system will be automatically renewed one day before they are due, library spokeswoman Katie Woods said.
If a library patron has an email address associated with their account, they will receive an email notice listing which items were successfully renewed, and which items were not, if applicable.
The new feature applies to all cards that have less than $15 due in fines.
Items that are not eligible are those that have reached their renewal limit, whether automatically by the system or manually by the patron.
Others not eligible are items that are on hold for other patrons, non-traditional items and devices and items that have already expired and won’t be retroactively renewed.
The Peninsula Library System is a consortium of 35 public and community college libraries around the county that was founded in 1971.
