Officers place a white rose at a ceremony to remember fallen colleagues in honor of National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day in Redwood City Wednesday. Each year, the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association participates in a Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony to honor those officers who have been killed in the line of duty in San Mateo County.
Law enforcement members throughout San Mateo County will remember their fallen colleagues at a ceremony April 23, in honor of National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day.
Atherton Police Chief Steve McCulley, the 2025 President of the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at Wednesday’s event, which will be held on the steps of the San Mateo County History Museum located at 2200 Broadway, Redwood City at 10 a.m.
This year, May 11-17 is National Police Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officer Memorial Day to commemorate all law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Each year the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association, together with the 100 Club of San Mateo County, conducts the Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony to honor those officers from San Mateo County who have been killed in the line of duty.
