• San Mateo County Probation Chief Loren Buddress was appointed to the newly formed California Rehabilitation Oversight Board by the Senate Rules Committee. The CROB is charged with regularly examining the various mental health, substance abuse, educational and employment programs for inmates and parolees operated by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Buddress has 33 years of experience under his belt, including overseeing the county programs Bridges, the adult day treatment program for adult probationers with substance abuse and/or mental health challenges; juvenile and adult cognitive skills training programs; Pathways Mental Health Court; juvenile and adult drug court; domestic violence court, G.I.R.L.S. Program (Gaining Independence and Reclaiming Lives Successfully); and, the prevent repeat offender program.
County government
• San Mateo County and its 20 cities formed a unique subregion for the Regional Housing Needs Allocation to decide each’s responsibility to provide housing. San Mateo County is the only one statewide to use the option to collaborate on a countywide basis rather than working as individual cities to meet housing obligations.

• Burlingame is holding a town hall meeting on Saturday, June 23 to gather ideas for improving the city and hear what community members have to say. The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Lane Room in the Burlingame Library, 480 Primrose Road.
Education
• Sandra Portasio was hired as the director of school community partnerships for the Redwood City School District and the city of Redwood City. Portasio will oversee the Redwood City Community Schools program, which was launched in 2003 to bring schools, families and communities together to support all aspects of the child’s development.
