A fund-raiser to benefit the parents of two young boys who perished in a fire on the San Mateo coast is set to take place May 22 at a bar in Princeton-by-the-Sea.
Charles Schuttloffel, 3, and his brother William, 2, died in a fire during the afternoon of May 4 in the small hamlet of San Gregorio, approximately 11 miles south of Half Moon Bay. The fire consumed the home on the 900 block of Seaside School Road.
The children's father, Charles Schuttloffel, was prevented by flames from entering the home and could do nothing but watch in horror as the tragedy unfolded.
As part of the effort to help the father and his wife, Lana Schuttloffel, recover from the devastation, locals up and down the San Mateo coast have reached out to help. One of those efforts is being hosted at the Old Princeton Landing bar at 460 Capistrano Road in Princeton-by-the-Sea near Pillar Point Harbor. It is being staged by bar owner Bob Wynkoop.
"Charlie has been a local guy from around here for years," said Wynkoop. "When we heard about it, we wanted to do something to help. They lost everything."
Donations at the door are $10. All money collected will go directly to the Schuttloffel family. For more information call 728-9103.
Those wishing to contribute in a different way can send donations to the Schuttloffel Relief Fund, First National Bank of Northern California, 756 Main St., Half Moon Bay, CA, 94019.
