Tensions between the Foster City mayor and a New Jersey environmental group over how much financial help the animal organization should provide for the city’s Canada Goose mitigation has led to questions about the potential partnership’s viability.

On Tuesday, Foster City Mayor Jon Froomin said the plan is to move forward with the current status quo of the city paying for an environmental review around geese mitigation, and he no longer expects any financial partnership with the Animal Protection League of New Jersey after he sent an Aug. 8 letter to the organization asking for details on its financial offer of a non-lethal plan to help minimize issues between geese and humans.

Not So Common

Round up the Geese that don't have green cards and deport these illegal Canadian Geese back to Canada.

This is a ridiculous expenditure. Hundreds of cities and towns across the country have this same problem with Canada Geese. A reasonably intelligent city employee could Google "Canada Geese determent plans" and call 2-3 other cities that have developed these plans and consult with California Fish and Wildlife and come up with a landscaping plan, i.e. what plants to plant and where to plant them and other successful non-lethal methods to deter the geese. If Foster City, following the lead of San Mateo, feels it must pay consultants for work the city employees should be doing, I offer to do this project for a mere $100,000.

if they were rats with long tails would options be different?

So what’s the score now? Geese, 10, and Foster City, 0? Actually, Foster City is at least down $171,000 and counting. Is FC closing in on wasting a cool $million? As said previously, we should hold an annual Geese Hunt, open for hunters to shoot whatever geese they see, proceeds donated to a group meal. Very low cost, along with a potentially free meal. Perhaps with the $171,000 we can hold a Foster City Iron Chef contest for the best cooked goose. If Froomin wants a few more headlines, he can volunteer to clean and dress the geese.

$171,000.00 to ignore the real solution to the goose problem ? That’s more than the cost of a police officer for a year. How much have we already spent over the years?
