On Nov. 4, 1769, the expedition of Spanish explorer Captain Gaspar de Portola climbed from the coast to what is today Sweeney Ridge in the San Bruno hills and beheld present-day San Francisco Bay.

Watch art happen Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as 30 artists paint the beautiful gardens and historic Spanish-style architecture of the Allied Arts Guild during "Paint Allied Arts Second Annual Plein Air Paintout and Exhibit.”
Paintings by the artists are available for sale all day during the event, including the new work created at the Paintout. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sales benefit the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
