UK government is caught up in a feud between Trump and the BBC
LONDON (AP) — The British government is addressing a dispute between the BBC and Donald Trump. Trump is threatening to sue the broadcaster over how it edited a speech he made after losing the 2020 election. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy is expected to make a statement in the House of Commons. Critics want changes to the BBC, while supporters urge the government to protect it from political interference. The BBC has apologized for misleading editing in a documentary. Trump’s lawyer is demanding a retraction, apology, and compensation. The BBC has not yet formally responded to these demands.
Furor over editing of Trump speech sparks 'existential crisis' at the BBC
LONDON (AP) — The sudden resignation of two top bosses at the BBC over the editing of a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump dealt a huge blow to the broadcaster. The BBC is revered by some in Britain as a national treasure but derided by others as outdated and left-leaning. The century-old, publicly funded broadcaster faced criticism after its flagship TV news program spliced together sections of a speech Trump made on Jan. 6, 2021, so that it appeared he explicitly urged supporters to march on Capitol Hill and “fight like hell.” The BBC chairman apologized Monday for an “error of judgment.”

Theater Review: 'The Queen of Versailles' with Kristin Chenoweth gets lost in a Hall of Mirrors
NEW YORK (AP) — The new Broadway show "The Queen of Versailles" feels unfinished, despite reuniting Kristin Chenoweth with "Wicked" songwriter Stephen Schwartz, Associated Press critic Mark Kennedy says. Based on a 2012 documentary, it explores socialite Jackie Siegel's attempt to build America's largest private home. The musical, which opened Sunday at the St. James Theatre, struggles to find its tone, wavering between ridicule and admiration. It misses the chance to comment on wealth inequality. Set against the backdrop of Trump's America, the show features extravagant elements but lacks memorable songs. Despite a tryout in Boston, Kennedy says it still feels like a work in progress.
