The Fitzgerald brothers had their finest dual showing of the season as San Mateo won its second straight on the non-league preseason.
Deadlocked 14-all after one quarter of play, the Bearcats (3-1) pitched a shutout over the final three periods to rally to the win at Palo Alto (0-4). San Mateo scored 10 unanswered points in the second quarter, and added a touchdown in the third for insurance.
The Bearcats rushed for 282 yards as a team, with the Fitzgerald boys accounting for 240 of those yards. Senior running back Yianni Fitzgerald took seven carries for a career-high 121 yards and one touchdown, while junior Lukas Fitzgerald rushed 20 times for 119 yards and one TD. Lukas Fitzgerald has now rushed triple digits in each of San Mateo’s four games, and has 566 yards while averaging 8.3 yards per carry on the year.
California 28, Menlo-Atherton 13
The Bears (0-4) dropped their fourth straight to start the year, falling at undefeated California-San Ramon. Paced by senior quarterback Banerjee Arjun’s three touchdown passes, the Grizzlies (4-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and led the rest of the way.
M-A running back Monty Turner took 25 carries for a game-high 120 yards, also a career-high for the senior. California out-rushed M-A 214-158, with senior Jordan Lee totaling 11 carries for a team-best 113 yards and one touchdown. M-A quarterback Teddy Dacey was 9-of-13 passing for 118 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Sophomore receiver Kyle Gabriel made his first varsity touchdown catch, while Dacey also rushed for a score.
Half Moon Bay 48, Fremont 0
HMB sophomore Joedoln Flores rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Cougars (3-1) to a blowout in non-league play at Fremont-Sunnyvale (0-4). Flores finished with eight carries for 60 yards and accounted for three first-half scores to send HMB into the locker room leading 34-0.

Sophomore quarterback Paxton Holden gained 162 total yards, going 4-of-4 passing wiht 96 yards and a touchdown to sophomore receiver Brandon Melo, and six carries for 66 yards and another TD. Junior running back Luke Pimentel had six carries for a game-high 68 yards.
Mills 27, Harbor 6
Mills head coach Nick Lobao earned the first win of his varsity coaching career as the Vikings (1-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win at Harbor-Santa Cruz (0-4).
Sophomore quarterback Brian Lourenco was 17-of-23 passing for three touchdown, including two scoring strikes to sophomore receiver Leo Wasmuth. Wasmuth totaled six catches for 133 yards, while junior Kosta Jada had six catches for 115 yards and one TD.
Los Gatos 49, Burlingame 0
The Panthers (2-2) suffered their first shutout since 2023, falling at home to 2024 PAL Bay Division runner-up Los Gatos (2-2) in non-league action.
Junior safety Mark O’Grady had one of the few Burlingame highlights with his second interception of the season. Burlingame gained just 78 total yards of offense, with senior quarterback Nick Armstrong going an efficient 8-of-11 passing for 56 yards.

Hillsdale (2-2) got back in the win column with a 27-6 victory at Terra Nova (2-2).
Aragon (2-2) dropped its second straight, falling 36-16 at Piedmont (2-2).
